Fares change from 2 June

From 2 June, we will be changing some of the fares around our network. The new fares can be found in the tables below. 

Many of these changes are due to continued increasing costs for us, including changes in government policy with employer National Insurance contributions increased substantially in April.  The changes should be small for most customers, or can be avoided by switching to multi-journey, weekly, or season tickets. 

On routes where the single fare costs more than £3, fares will continue to be capped at £3 as part of the UK Government’s Help for Households scheme.

Most single fares will increase by 10p or 20p and most return fares will increase by 10p to 30p.  

Other fares

Some of our period tickets (7, 30, 90, annual and term) will see small increases too, but will still be the cheapest option for those making more than a few journeys a week.

Did you know?

Single and day tickets can be bought from the driver using cash or contactless. However,  where available, for adult singles and day tickets it is always cheaper to tap on and tap off rather than requesting a ticket from the driver. Tap on, tap off automatically caps the payment once you reach the day ticket price for the journeys made. Some return fares may be cheaper bought from the driver if they are under the day ticket price in the zone you are travelling in.   Tap on tap off is available on our services in Wokingham and Reading (across Thames Valley Buses and Reading Buses)* and also Flightline 703, and we plan to extend this to other routes in the coming months.

*Tap on tap off is not available on routes 125A and 125B

Group tickets are for up to four people (any combination of adults and children) travelling together. The ticket has a 'peak' price (Monday to Friday before 9.30am) and 'off-peak' price (Monday to Friday after 9.30am, all day weekends & public holidays)

Our daysaver 5 gives you 5 separate all-day tickets for the same price as a 7 day (consecutive) ticket. It’s great if you only travel two or three days during the week, or travel on multiple routes in a day. There's no expiry so these tickets are perfect for occasional travellers - the ones you don't use stay available unlike a normal 7 day ticket which counts down once you activate it, regardless of whether you travel or not!

These tickets are valid on Reading Buses and Thames Valley Buses within the simplyReading zone. The adult simplyReading day ticket will cost £4.50 when bought on our mobile app or by using tap on, tap off or £5 when bought from the driver. This ticket is valid on all Thames Valley Buses and Reading Buses routes within the simplyReading zone.

The boost simplyReading day ticket for young people will cost £4 on both the app and from the driver. 

The simplyReading group day ticket (allowing any combination of up to 4 people to travel together all day) will cost £8 off peak (after 9.30am Monday to Fridays, at weekends or bank holidays), and £10 during peak times (Monday to Fridays before 9.30am). The ticket can be bought on both our app and from the driver.

As part of our fares change, we’re introducing new evening tickets for travel after 7pm in either the simplyReading or simplyReading & Wokingham zones; these tickets will offer unlimited travel for the remainder of the day in the zone they are purchased in.  Evening tickets will only be available using tap on, tap off. 

In the simplyReading zone, this ticket will be priced at just £4 and in the simplyReading & Wokingham zone it will be £5. 

Reading All-Bus 

If you want the flexibility to travel on any Thames Valley Buses, Reading Buses, Carousel Buses and Thames Travel service within the simplyReading zone, the Reading All-Bus ticket will still be available for you.

The price of this ticket will increase to £4.90 on mobile apps and when using tap on, tap off, or £5.40 when requested from the driver. The young person’s (under 18) ticket will rise to £4.20.

The Reading All-Bus group ticket will increase to £8.80 off-peak and £10.80 peak.

These tickets are valid on Thames Valley Buses between Slough and Cippenham on route 5, and between Slough and Dover Road on route 704.
